 Morning Report

As dawn greeted the new day, Stonefledge leaped from boulder to boulder, passing several crags and holes along the way. Peering up at the top of the hillside, she could see dawn had already touched its warm rays on the topmost part and was slowly trickling down over the rest of the camp. A few cat-tail lengths away from the peak, she sat on a triangular boulder, jutting out of the hillside horizontally, and stared up at the top of the hill, where the leader's den was. She allowed herself a loud purr of amusement. I'd hate to be woken up every morning with the sun piercing my eyes like that she thought.
She started up the hillside again, yowling good naturedly up to Galestar's Den.
"My leader, are you awake yet?"

Wrapped in a ball of slumber, the leader's ears twitched feebly at the sound of a familiar call. I am now, you pestering she-cat, he thought grumpily, but twisted around all the same to face the den mouth. Almost immediately the dawn light cut across his eyes, and he writhed backward into the shadow, scowling. Why must we go through this every morning? he groaned, and half considered ignoring his adviser's call and try to go back to sleep. Yet he knew it would be useless. She had been perching outside his den calling his name practically every dawning day since he appointed her a council rank. She probably considered it part of her job to wake up him, and experience told him that if he did try to ignore her and feign sleeping she would either call out to him louder until the whole camp was awakened or romp smartly into his den.
Sighing, he took a moment to stretch his body luxuriously out-his claws scraping the hard stone-before poking his head and staring pointedly down at Stonefledge.

"Yes?"

Encouraged by her leader's appearance, she scrabbled up another few tail-lengths until she was just below Galestar's den. She looked up at her leader, beaming, and flicked her tail and bobbed her head respectfully at her leader. Energized by the dawn's rays warm against her back, she purred loudly as she addressed him.
"Good morning, Galestar. The Dawn patrol has been sent out already, and the hunters should be back soon with some freshkill." She paused to consider what to say next; nothing of interest had really happened since last night, but she didn't like giving reports that had nothing to report. She decided to make up small talk instead.
"It's pretty windy today, so everyone should be careful of slipping rocks and boulders while we're on the hillsides, but the medicine cat is predicting very good weather for the gathering coming up."
Predicting Galestar's mood at being woken up to extremely average news, she changed the subject. "Did you sleep well last night? The apprentices were shifting quite a bit during the night; I think they're quite excited about their first gathering."

While the she-cat was talking, Galestar took a moment to cast his blue eyes over the camp below: all seemed peaceful,as it should. One or two apprentices were sharing tongues while waiting for the fresh-kill pile to be stocked, and a few elders were speaking in slow-morning tones at their den entrance.
Eyes snapping back to Stonefledge, Galestar meowed curtly to her, "Yes, the first Gathering is always the most exciting. I take it the deputy accompanied the Dawn patrol?"

Technically speaking, it was the deputy's job to make reports on the going-ons in the camp, but his own deputy usually preferred doing morning patrols, so he wasn't often around like Stonefledge was.

"Hmm?" She started at the sudden change of topic, and then looked back over her shoulder, towards the hunting grounds in the distance. "Yes, the Deputy took two groups to cover the area today. And agreed to pick up some freshkill on the way back-there's plenty all around, now that newleaf is here."

Nodding in satisfaction, Galestar hunched up then sprang onto the same boulder Stonefledge was sitting on, landing neatly at her side. "All is well then," he meowed. "Have you any lessons to give today?"

Stonefledge turned around to overlook the StoneClan territory and its inhabitants below. "No, no lessons of great length," she meowed, noticing the sound of a few apprentices still stretching in their dens below. "I'll probably just go and quiz whoever dawdles around too long. That should get them to their duties quick enough," she added with a bemused purr.

"There won't be any need," he meowed, for the first time purring with rough amusement. "You'll be busy today."
At the same instant meows of delight could be heard down in the camp. Looking, Galestar saw that at last the Dawn Patrol had returned with prey. "Good, good! They're back. Come with me, Stonefledge, I have a meeting to announce."
Without another word he bounded down the rocks below and scrambled off a small slope into the camp. Moving through his Clanmates, the tomcat leaped onto an old boulder.

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here infront of Old Stone for a Clan Meeting!" he yowled, his dark voice booming around the camp.

Puzzled, Stonefledge leaped down the hill after her leader, occasionally causing a few rocks to tumble down the hill after her. Once she reached the bottom, she skirted around the forming group of StoneClan cats and sat at the edge of the circle, closest to the freshkill pile, where it would be in easy reach once Galestar finished his announcement. For now, she turned her attention to the cat perched on the Old Stone.

"Rosekit, you must compose yourself." Galestar meowed at the kit, whose voice was so high and loud it rocketed throughout the camp. His face took on a stern look, but inside he couldn't help but be amused at her excitement. To the camp, he meowed:

"We are gathered here today to give a kit her apprentice name. Rosekit, come here," He indicated to the center where a little clearing space had been left out, where she ought to stand.

The overwhelmed little kit happily dashed up the high rock to where her leader sat a plopped herself down excitedly. She gazed around at all of the cats crowding around, wondering which one would be her mentor. I'm finally going to be a warrior!!! I can't wait!!! I am going ot get to meet other cats and get to fight in battles! I will train my hardest and be the best warrior that StoneClan has ever seen, even better than Firestar, from all of the stories I hear from the elders! I will hunt so well that I would be able to feed all of the clans in just one hunt! I will fight so well, that other cats from other clans will trouble in my presence! I will...... She could ramble on and on forever in her mind, the ambisious cat that Rosekit was.
